Rompin' Around

I have been on a huge romper kick this summer. Something about the one-and-done-ness of it is so incredibly appealing. I've always been more of a jeans and t-shirt kinda girl, but between the pandemic and working from home, I've fallen into the less is more mindset as far as effort goes. I like the rompers (and dresses) because they look cute while also being comfortable and easy.

I've decided to share a few of my favorite ones I found while browsing online (most of which are on sale), because as much as I'd love to be past the 98* days, it's still summer for a little while, so we might as well be comfortable.

The Romper Round-Up:

1) Old Navy Linen Blend V-Neck Cami Jumpsuit

2) Old Navy Sleeveless Surplice-Back Romper (this has been one of my go-tos all summer)

3) AE Eyelet Tube Romper

4) AE Floral Wrap -Front Romper

5) AE Plush Henley Romper (I wear this one ALL the time!)

6) UO Billabong Girl on the Run Romper

7) UO Out from Under Rosie Romper

8) Target Universal Thread French Terry Sleeveless Romper ( I love this kind of pumpkin-y fall color.)

9) Target Universal Thread Short Sleeve Boilersuit (This one reminds me of one my mum had as a kid and my sister and I used to try and steal it all the time.)

That's it! Hope you can find a cute one on sale to wear on repeat through these last scorching days of summer!

Spring Essentials

The unmistakeable feel of spring is in the air. The days are getting longer, there are daffodils, tulips, and forsythia everywhere, and even the rain smells different. Each hike we take, Shelley and I notice new buds on the trees and everything just seems to be coming alive after the long, dark winter.

I'm linking some of my favorites from this spring. Florals for spring are not groundbreaking but they make me happy, so I'm excited to wear this Target dress and this American Eagle romper

I have worn both this Madewell scarf and this pair of gingham Vans for years (they're a Madewell collab and not in stock anymore, but all Vans are great) and they're such a cute way to add a bit of flair to a basic white t-shirt and ponytail. I also have been in a yellow gold phase for a while and these threadbare rings from Catbird are a daily addition.

For our home, we got this tulip wreath from JoAnn Fabrics and it is such a nice pop of color against the blue door and the yellow daffodils, and it makes me happy. Shelley loves when we burn this rose water and ivy candle, and between that and the lilies & hyacinth we have on the table, it smells very floral in here most of the time.

As far as personal care, I've been using this Tula blue light sunscreen since the fall (literally the same tube) and love the dewy glow it gives, but it has the added perk of being SPF and protecting from pollution as well. I also did a hair mask for the first time last month and have incorporated it into my weekly routine-- plus this coconut kind smells SO good & makes me feel like I am at the beach!

Happy Spring everyone! 😌

Hair Care Routine

One of the questions I get asked the most frequently is what I do to my hair to get it long and keep it healthy. It's been a lifelong process of trying to figure out what works, and after two shoulder-length haircuts that were colossal mistakes (I just do not look good with short hair), I found some tips and tricks that helped me grow my hair out and keep it from looking like witch hair (this is a legitimate concern).

Hair care starts in the shower. First, I only wash my hair probably 3-4 out of seven days. Not only is it a huge hassle to do all of this nightly, but it also dries everything out, which is not great.

I've tried vinegar rinses, masks, and a million shampoos. I don't think it really matters what shampoo you use as long as it isn't a dollar bottle or one of those weird 6-in-1 deals that dudes use. I opt for either Pantene Pro-V or the Garnier Grow Strong shampoo and conditioner. Again, I don't see the point in paying $20 for a bottle of shampoo, but you do you. So I start with washing it and rinsing, and then I put on the conditioner and leave it set while I do everything else. Then rinse with cold water only. It seals your cuticles and makes it shiny.

Once I'm done with that process, I'll either scrunch my hair (more on that another time) or just typically opt to style it. First, do not come your hair wet. DO NOT. I just spritz on this USmooth heat protectant spray which is $20 but also lasts for like six months or more, and my hair's long. It smells amazing and essentially works as a leave-in conditioner as well as a thermal spray.

I leave my hair air dry (unless I'm going somewhere and only have an hour from the time I step in the shower until the time I walk out the door (I try REALLY hard not to ever have this happen because it sucks)). I don't wrap it in a towel. There was a period of time I noticed a lot of little breakaway fuzzies around my hairline if I wore it up, and that look is cute on babies but not on me, so no more of that. I might blast it with a dryer a bit the next morning if it's still a little damp, and then after that I just use my flat iron to smooth and flip the ends.

Ta-da!
